Finding property owners
Good day,
I would like to know how I can find out to whom a specified listed property is owned, and then how I can go about to contacting them. There is a property which I am interested in making an offer on, as I see the stand is deteriorating, thus the owner clearly isn’t interested in the property anymore. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Hi Eugene,
in which city is the property located?
You could use the following database:
http://www.saptg.co.za
Or if you’re in Durban you could just use http://ethekwini.evaluations.co.za, put in the address and get the owners name.
Otherwise:
Step 1: You need to find out the property description. Depending on where you are your municipality might have a GIS maps service on its website like Durban does. Durban’s GIS system is stellar. For Joburg (http://ims.joburg.org.za/joburg/). Another option would be to phone the local municipal town planning dept. give them the street address and ask for the property description.
Its usually something like Portion 5 of Erf 12 Sweetwaters Township or Erf 96 Umhlanga Rocks or Remainder of Erf 45 Richards Bay Ext. 17.
Step 2: Once you have the Property Description you can then do a deeds office search using http://www.windeed.co.za to see who the owner is.
However, getting the owners contact details may be a bit harder.
Last but not least, you can try and contact estate agents in the area. They can normally source this info.
Good luck!
