Will e-tolls lead to an increase in food prices for Gauteng?
Yesterday Sanral announced that more than 212.000 cars have already sign up for e-tolling. As medium vehicles will be charged R1/km, and “longer” vehicles R2/km, respectively – my biggest fear is, that this might affect food prices in Gauteng quite drastically. Do you guys share this fear? Furthermore, does the national and provincial government account for any measures to prevent yet an other hyper inflation on basic goods?
Please provide your thoughts on this!
Sure e-tolling will affect food prices! Although it seems to me as if supermarkets are already pursuing gradual price hikes, judging the increases on numerous food items at the beginning of this year. The good news is, that the “African National Roads Agency Limited” has announced a further delay in the launch. Probably 212.000 sold e-tags was not enough to go ahead with this project. Thus, I’m urging all South Africans to boycott t-tolling and not to register for e-tags or pay any of the bills imposed on us by the Sanral or the Gauteng government respectively!

LikeDislikeyep!! Spar and SuperSpar have already increased the retail prices by more tahn 25% in Gauteng! Have a look at http://satags.com/post/19183669348/spar-price/ . Prices for rice and maize have increasesd over 40% and milk prices by almost 30%…! Welcome to the eToll inflation!!! This wouldn’t be the end of it… 🙁
